Borrow Utah State Archives Microfilm

Microfilm of State Archives collections can be loaned to researchers. This does not include loaning any original paper record or microfilm of records for which access is restricted. The Utah History Research Center does not participate in the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) program used by many libraries. Microfilm loans are subject to postage charges. Films that are restricted because of statutory law and films that are non-circulating because of their high on-site use cannot be borrowed.

Loan Procedure

In order to borrow microfilm, a patron must sign and return a Microfilm Loan Form. Payment may be handled by providing credit card information on the registration form or by mailing two checks along with the form. If payment is made by check, one check should be made out for the shipping charges and the second made out for the amount of the deposit.

Shipping charges: $4 for first two reels; $1 for each additional reel, up to five reels total.

Deposit: $10 For each reel

  • Microfilm may be loaned for a period of one month, with the option of two renewals (unless the film has been requested by another patron).
  • No more than five reels of microfilm may be loaned to any one borrower at a time.
  • Borrowers are responsible for returning films to the Utah History Research Center by first class or Priority mail.
  • Borrowers who fail to return films within two weeks of the loan period expiration will forfeit their return deposit of each reel that is overdue.

Call us at the Research Center at (801) 533-3535 or email us to learn of the exact costs and know whether the microfilms you wish to borrow circulate.
